About Breakout

Breakout is proud to be a part of the Lawrence community. We’re located on Massachusetts Street in the heart of downtown Lawrence. Our job is to be a source of fun, challenge, and great memories for the entire Lawrence community - students, locals, and visitors of all ages.

Escape rooms have grown in popularity across the United States in recent years, and we’re certain that if you join us for a game, you’ll see why. Escape rooms challenge you to think quickly, solve puzzles and riddles, and execute a strategy to “beat the game” and solve your way out of the room. At Breakout Lawrence, we have four fun and unique rooms - a challenge to suit every taste.

We hope you come and visit us soon - come by yourself, or bring your friends and family. We’re excited to meet you and get you hooked on Breaking Out!

Escape Room FAQs

Am I really going to be locked in a room?
Claustrophobes rejoice! Although the door to your room is "locked", we provide a button next to the door that will allow you to exit the game without penalty other than being minus one of your teammates. The only time we require all players to remain in the room for the entire 60 minutes is if your team is attempting to break a record.

How do I book a game?
The easiest way to book your Breakout Lawrence game is on our booking page. You can also book by calling us at 785-422-5625, sending an email to info@breakoutlawrence.com, or visiting us on beautiful Massachusetts St.!

How early should I arrive?
Parking downtown can be tricky. Please give yourself some extra time and arrive 15 minutes prior to your start time. Games will begin exactly at your start time. We are unable to wait if you are late, and you may have less than 60 minutes to play if you are not on time.

How many people play?
The amount of player spots differs for each room, and you can find this information on the main page under each room description as well as on our booking page.

Are there age restrictions?

There are no age restrictions to play the game, however we suggest checking out our game ratings on the Booking page in order to make the best decision for the individuals in your group. For young players under the age of 14 an adult must also be playing with them or chaperoning. We also do not have Kids tickets or anything like that, but children age 5 and under may tag along for free! Any children 6 or older must pay the full price.

What kind of physical mobility do the games require?

Each game has its own different challenges, but certain rooms may require one or more players to bend down, crawl, or reach in order to complete a puzzle. However, each room is friendly to those with limited mobility as long as there are other players in the group capable of performing the more physical tasks. Please refer to the game ratings on our Book A Game page to find out which games feature the most physical movement. If you have any concerns about the physical nature of our games, please call or send us an email and it will be our pleasure to make sure your experience is completely safe and enjoyable.

How do I pay?
Rooms booked online are paid at the time of reservation. We also accept payment in person or over the phone, but payment must be received before we can reserve a room. If you are splitting payment with others in your group, please let us know and we will make accommodations.

Can I book with my friends or family? Can I add people to my reservation?
Of course! We suggest designating one person to place the booking for your entire group. Once the minimum number of players is met the game is no longer available to book online, but additional players may be added in person.

Can you accommodate larger parties and events?
Absolutely! Our facility is designed for up to 26 players at a time, and we can arrange multiple rounds of games for groups larger than 26. Please visit our Large Groups page for more information, and don't forget to check out Team Lab, our in-depth team building experience that connects the escape room challenge to the challenges faced by you and your team every day in the competitive workplace environment.

Will there be other people in the room with us?
Only the ones you invited! All of our games are automatically private, so you will not be paired with another group.

How long is each game?
Each game is 60 minutes, though we ask you to arrive 15 minutes prior to your experience for preparation and 5 minutes after to debrief and take a fun group picture!

If I've played a certain room already, can I play the same room again or will it be the same?
Besides minor changes, the gameplay in each room is consistent so we recommend choosing a new theme the next time you want to play a game!

What happens if I need to cancel my reservation?
We understand that life is unpredictable at times, so we are more than happy to help you reschedule your experience should you be unable to make it to your originally scheduled game. Not sure when you want to come back? We can provide you with a personal credit that you can use to book again at your convenience.

Is Breakout Lawrence wheelchair accessible?
Yes, Breakout Lawrence is wheelchair accessible for the Y2K and Stock Exchange rooms. However, Rules of Basketball and Civil War are only partially accessible. Both rooms will require additional help from teammates to complete all of the challenges!

Where do we park?

There is plenty of available parking in downtown Lawrence and you have a few different options when it comes to parking. Along Mass St. (shown below in blue) and some surrounding downtown streets you will find meter parking. Meters cost $.50 an hour between 9am and 6pm (excluding Sundays and Holidays). The yellow shaded spots show the location of 2-hour lots where parking is free for 2 hours within the same time frame as the metered parking. The area shaded in orange is a 4 story parking garage adjacent to the Lawrence Public Library. The first three stories feature 2-hour free spots (10-hours of parking available for $1 at pay station), while the 4th story is free parking all day.

If your scheduled game is on a Friday night, a Saturday, or during a special downtown event, we recommend giving yourself an extra 5-10 minutes to find a space and walk to Breakout.
