There are four rooms at Breakout Lawrence, and the honest answer to “which is best” is that it depends on who you're bringing. Here's how we'd actually pick.
If it's your first escape room
Start with Alice in Wonderland or NORAD: 1963. Both sit at 7/10 on our challenge scale, which is the sweet spot for a group that hasn't done this before — enough to make you work, not enough to make you miserable. Alice takes 2–6 players; NORAD takes 2–8.
If you've done a few before
Civil War Escape is an 8/10 and needs at least three players. It's the one where a group that's played together before tends to find its rhythm fastest.
If you want to be beaten up a little
Room 13 is a 9/10 and it's our most challenging room. We recommend it for players with prior escape room experience. It is not a good first room, and we'll gently say so if you try to book it as one.
If you're bringing a big group
NORAD: 1963 has our highest capacity at eight players. Past that, we split groups across rooms — the facility runs up to 26 players at a time. Group details are here.
What makes a room good, anyway
Ours are not scary. We occasionally use a spooky theme for immersion, but nobody is going to jump out at you. You don't need to know anything about the theme — being a Civil War buff genuinely will not help you. And every game has hints built in, so a group that gets stuck stays unstuck.

Which room should a first-timer book?
Alice in Wonderland or NORAD: 1963. Both are rated 7/10, which is the right starting point for a group that has not done an escape room before.
Do I need to know the theme?
No. You do not need any knowledge of the theme in order to play.
